In Skul: The Hero Slayer, your main goal is to get good at the game and eventually beat the final boss, the Sword of Carleon. As a rogue-lite game, each run is different because the levels change every time you play. You start with just the basic skull abilities and learn more as you play. The game is tough, but it's all about getting better and figuring out the best ways to win.
This stage is about learning how Skul works and making it all the way to thefinal boss. Don’t worry too much about collecting all the trophies yet. Focus on understanding the game. Once you feel confident about getting to and fighting the final boss, you'll be ready for more specific trophy goals later on. Each time you play, you’re getting closer to winning, even if you lose.

HOW TO CHEESE THE BOSS FIGHTS
The best way that many people have used to do these is the Slime method. This isn't a skull, but a quintessence item. Special items known as quintessences can be found in the black market or as rewards after defeating bosses or adventurers in stages. These quintessences are rare and can sometimes appear in the black market. The Slime Quintessence is a Common rarity quintessence. The best time to get this is before the Leiania Sisters fight, as after that, unique and higher rarity items start popping up more, instead of Common.
Dodging in Skul is like the way you avoid attacks in Dark Souls. Invisibility frames is dodging, and if you time it right, you can pass through enemy attacks without taking damage. Pair this quintessence with one of the following skulls with Invisibility Frames, and you are ready to defeat the bosses without getting hit. The rest is obviously up to your skill in the game:
GARGOYLE (preferably, the GOLDEN or BRONZE)Gargoyle has a skill called Petrify with a cooldown of 16 seconds. It has a low cooldown and grants 2 seconds of invincibility frames, allowing enough time for the slime to return from cooldown. Pressing the button repeatedly does not end the invincibility, making it perfect for the Slime Quintessence. The Bronze Gargoyle is better than the Golden Gargoyle because the invincibility frames start after landing from a fall, providing additional time for the Slime Quintessence to cool down.
GENE (preferably, MAGNIFICO)The Genie or Magnifico has a skill called Genie Lamp with a cooldown of 10 seconds, which is the shortest cooldown among the options. It provides 2 seconds of invincibility frames, making it ideal. However, pressing the button again ends the invulnerable state, so spamming the button is not recommended. Precise timing of the button press is crucial, as there are small frames where you can get hit between using the slime and activating the Genie Lamp if not done properly.
PETTY THIEF (preferably, OUTLAW)The Rogue or Outlaw has a skill called Backroll with a cooldown of 20 seconds, which is relatively long. However, it provides invincibility frames only within the smoke cloud. Using the backwards roll could leave you vulnerable to getting hit, so precision is essential to effectively use this skill.
WATER (preferably, POSEIDON)The Water or Poseidon skull has a skill called Dive with a cooldown of 10 seconds, which is relatively low. However, it only provides 1 second of invincibility frames. To make this skill effective, you would need significant quintessence reduction, ideally totaling +220% (320% in total), but it's unlikely to find enough. Precision is crucial to make this skull work effectively.
GRIM REAPERThe Grim Reaper skull has two skills: Harvest with a cooldown of 15 - 44 seconds and Sentence with a cooldown of 18 seconds. Both have a 1-second invincibility frame.Using both Harvest and Sentence, the Grim Reaper can be effective. However, once Harvest evolves after gathering 50 Souls from monster kills, its cooldown becomes too long (44 seconds). To reduce Harvest's evolved cooldown to 5 seconds, you would need +750% (850% total) Skill Cooldown reduction. Similarly, for Sentence to work effectively, you would need +220% (320% total) Quintessence reduction. |
If you acquire a skull without the invulnerability skill you need, you can pay gold to Dark Priests to change your skills, usually found in Stages 3-4.
Quintessence reduction is crucial for a slime build. The Slime skill has a 15-second cooldown and lasts for 3 seconds. Realistically, you want to reduce the ability cooldown to 5 seconds (3 seconds from being a slime, 2 seconds from the regular skull's invulnerable ability). This requires at least +130% (230% total) Quintessence reduction. If using Water Skull or Grim Reaper, you'll need +220% (320% total) Quintessence reduction.
UPGRADE 1:
- Having only one piece of Heritage (+65% Quintessence cooldown speed) is not enough.
- The Ancestral Bracelet (+45% Quintessence cooldown speed) and Ancient Incense Burner (+65% Quintessence cooldown speed) combo is usually enough, especially with Genie or Gargoyle. Additional Quintessence reduction will ensure your invincibility state as a slime more often.
UPGRADE 2 - Skill Reduction and Damage:
To fill the window between slimes, the invulnerability skill's cooldown needs to be reduced to at least 5 seconds. With Gargoyle, you need at least +250% (350% total) cooldown reduction. The 2-piece Mana Cycle gives 50% cooldown reduction, so you need an additional 200% skill reduction to stay invulnerable 100% of the time.
For damage, you'll need items that deal damage on skill use, like the Mage’s Necklace. This item creates a burning orb when casting a skill, which hurls a fireball at the nearest enemy, dealing Magic Damage.
After covering the basics, aim for Magic Damage % Up as long as you meet the Cooldown requirements to stay invulnerable 100% of the time.
Useful Equipment:Unknown Seed: Increases Physical attack and Magic attack each time 10 HP is recovered. Provides both Heritage and Mana Cycle.
Ritual Staff: Increases Magic attack by 50% and the Skill Cooldown Speed of Balance Skulls by 40%. Great for Cooldown Speed and Magic Damage if using Gargoyle.
Bone of Mana: Creates a mana storm when casting a skill, dealing Magic Damage. Additional Skill Damage based on the number of Balance type skulls owned.
Wood Statue: Increases Skill Cooldown Speed by 100%. Taking damage nullifies its effect for 10 seconds. Provides insane Cooldown Speed.
